Identidades fragmentadas na ficção de Milton Hatoum

Abstract

O nosso artigo reflectirá sobre a busca de identidade assumida pelos narradores dos dois primeiros romances de Milton Hatoum: Relato de um certo oriente e Dois irmãos. Os narradores são identidades dilaceradas que buscam reconstruir as ruínas do seu mundo a partir do resgate de lembranças do passado. Ambos conseguem efectuar um trabalho de catarse que se inscreve na tradição de Xerazade: narrar é diferir a morte. Ao dedicarem-se à escrita, os dois narradores reconstroem a sua subjectividade criadora.

This paper reflects on the search for identity assumed by the narrators of Milton Hatoum’s first two novels: Report of a Certain Orient and Two Brothers. The narrators are lacerated identities that seek to rebuild the ruins of their world by rescuing memories from the past. Both manage to carry out a work of catharsis that is part of the Scheherazade tradition: to narrate is to defer death. By devoting themselves to writing, the two narrators recreate their creative subjectivity.
