Tourism activity affects house price dynamics? Evidence for countries dependent on tourism
Publication . Cró, Susana; Martins, António Miguel; Martins, António
This study analyses the impact of tourism in house prices in eight tourism dependent countries in terms of exports for the period from 2000 to 2018.
We employ a Vector-Error Correction Model (VECM) for the empirical
estimation given that house prices, tourism activity and other
determinants are cointegrated. The results indicate that tourism has a
significant positive impact on house prices both in the short-run and in
the long-run. The Granger causality tests show that tourism activity
Granger-causes house prices in the eight countries analysed. These
results have important practical and political implications. There is a
delicate environment and social equilibrium in tourist destinations that
it is necessary to ensure. If it is true that tourism has positive effects on
the economy through job creation and economic growth it is also
important to internalize the negative externalities caused by tourism,
through the adoption of appropriate economic instruments and policies.
Narrative therapy as an innovative approach to anorexia nervosa treatment: a literature review
Publication . Santos, Petra José Pereira; Soares, Luísa; Faria, Ana Lúcia; Soares, Luísa; dos Santos Faria, Ana Lúcia
ABSTRACT
Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by a morbid fear of
gaining weight, excessive restriction of food and intense and
exaggerated practice of physical exercise. There are two subtypes
of anorexia: restrictive and purgative. Its prevalence is mainly in
female adolescents aged 15 to 19 and entails multiple harmful
physical, psychological, social, and emotional consequences.
Anorexia is portrayed as a multifactorial disorder, requiring a
biopsychosocial perspective and a multidisciplinary intervention
to address all the affected areas of the individual. In this article,
we approach the appliance of Narrative Therapy by White and
Epston ((1989). Literate Means to Therapeutic Ends. Dulwich
Centre Publications), which advocates that the psychotherapeutic
treatment can be carried out together – psychologist, client and
family – with the literature supporting it. Anorexia is an
egosyntonic disorder associated with a high mortality rate. It
should be noted that the cure for anorexia is not granted since
there is an increased number of relapses and treatment dropouts.
For this reason, an innovative approach like narrative therapy can
be approached with promising results.
personalizada e integrada no Futebol contemporâneo.
YES, WE COPE: dyadic coping as a mediator between perceived relationship quality and emotional representation of COVID-19
Publication . Relvas, Ana Paula; Lacomba-Trejo, Laura; Portugal, Alda; Chiarolanza, Claudia; Major, Sofia; Rosa, Catarina; Sotero, Luciana; Randall, Ashley K.; Portugal, Alda
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about social changes that have impacted the functioning and dynamics
of couples in a romantic relationship, arising from the overwhelming amount of added stress they have endured. Specifically,
the divorce rate in Portugal has increased after lockdown, which underscores the adverse consequences of COVID-19 on
couples. A lower quality of the couple’s relationship may worsen the emotional representation of COVID-19; however, the
literature suggests that perceived partner dyadic coping responses have a great influence on adverse events. The aim of the
present study was to assess the mediating role of partner coping in the association between relationship quality and emotional
representation of COVID-19. We also sought to observe whether the length of the relationship moderates this association.
Methods Participants (N=528) were adults living in Portugal (84.7% female) currently in a romantic relationship with their
current partner for at least 1 year. Online data collection.
Results We found that relationship quality predicted COVID-19 emotional representation, but this association was fully
mediated by total dyadic coping. This association was especially significant in couples with a shorter length of time in the
relationship.
Conclusions We point out the importance of dyadic coping as a protective factor against emotional distress to cope with the
ongoing stressors associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. These data suggest the need for relationship education programs
that promote positive coping between partners.
Intracranial carotid occlusions
Publication . Pero, Guglielmo; Dória, Hugo Mota; Piano, Mariangela; Macera, Antonio; Quilici, Luca; Cervo, Amedeo; Martins, Hugo Filipe Mota Dória
Purpose Specific decisions made by neurointerventionists are often lost behind the data of large-scale trials, and many of
these studies have taken place before the development of new techniques and devices. This study compares the stent-retriever
assisted vacuum-locked extraction (SAVE) technique with a direct aspiration first pass (ADAPT), as well as the use of
a balloon guide catheter (BGC), in intracranial internal carotid artery (IC-ICA) occlusions.
Methods Observational and retrospective study from an Italian hospital, including patients who underwent thrombectomy
for IC-ICA occlusion between 1 January 2019 and 31 March 2021.
Results Out of 91 IC-ICA occlusions, the ADAPT was the first choice in 20 (22%) and the SAVE in 71 (78%). A BGC
was used in 32 (35%) cases, always in conjunction with the SAVE technique. The use of SAVE technique without BGC
was associated with the least risk of distal embolization (DE) in the territory occluded (44% vs. 75% when ADAPT
technique was used; p= 0.03) and achieved first pass effect (FPE) more frequently (51% vs. 25%, p= 0.09). When the
SAVE technique was used, BGC (BGC-SAVE) compared to no BGC (NoBGC-SAVE) was associated with a tendency for
less DE (31% vs. 44%, p= 0.3), more FPE (63% vs. 51%, p= 0.5), the same median number of passes (1, p= 0.8) and
similar groin-to-recanalization times (36.5 vs. 35.5min, p= 0.5), none of which reached statistical significance.
Conclusion Our findings support the use of SAVE technique for IC-ICA occlusions; the added benefit of BGC compared
to long sheaths was not remarkable in this sample.
